Nadia Lassen, CEO and Co-owner of Danish lighting brand Nuura, may spend her working day immersed in a world of home décor and design but that doesn’t hamper her passion for creating a home filled with festive cheer.
Located in the leafy Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, just like Nuura’s elegant and timeless lighting products themselves, Nadia’s three-story villa, which she shares with her four children, husband Kasper and Cavapoo, Nelly perfectly reflects the richness and joy found in Nordic nature and its traditions.
So, if you are looking for ideas and inspiration on how to bring a more Nordic feel to your home this holiday, here’s what Nadia had to tell me:

“We bought the house in 2018 before renovating it to become our dream home. While we needed to modernise and future-proof it, Kasper and I also wanted to preserve the soul that old villas like this often have, and never is this more evident than at Christmas time.
I have a tradition with a friend where we make sweets a few days before Christmas Eve and it’s usually that evening celebrations begin for me and when I finally start to relax and the holiday atmosphere sets in.
On the 23rd we then bring the Christmas tree inside, decorate it together and eat risengrød, a traditional Danish rice porridge. The star on the tree was made by my grandmother so will always have a very special place in my heart, that, and a little old-fashioned carousel ornament that my husband and I bought together as a memory of the first time we met, on a winter’s day in Tivoli.

Like many families, Christmas wouldn’t be the same without good food and good company, so we host on Christmas Eve. I love setting the table, cooking the food and then going to church. When we sit and sing hymns, I always get a bit emotional. Afterwards, we then watch Disney’s Christmas Show, ‘From All of Us to All of You’ together on TV, eat a traditional Christmas dinner with a rice pudding dessert and cherry sauce to finish, before dancing around the tree and opening presents.
Personally, I think the whole month of December is wonderful, and love that in a busy world when most people no longer focus on the original Christian reason, we all wait with excitement for the same day to arrive and celebrate together.
Without a doubt, my children are what I enjoy the most during Christmas time. Their imagination, joy and excitement is something I think we adults can certainly learn a lot from.”
