If like me you’re feeling a little flat after the festive break, then Lilløy Lindenberg has to be the perfect place to leave your winter blues behind. Located in Askøy, which is only a forty-minute drive from Bergen, this majestic destination offers a much-needed break from daily life as well as an unforgettable design experience too.
With the entire island available to book, lucky Lilløy Lindenberg guests can choose to stay in either the recently restored Main House, which accommodates up to ten people, or a super cute and cosy two-storey, one bedroom Boat House by the jetty.

As you would expect every detail within the hotel’s interiors are as charming as they are thoughtful. An ode to Norwegian folk style but with modern accents, they are the handy work of the award-winning design studio Vera & Kyte, with many of the furnishings, such as the seaweed filled beds and custom furniture pieces all being made in Bergen, while neighbouring island artisans have contributed hand woven textiles, locally blown glassware and paintings.
Family and pet friendly as well, each Lilløy Lindenberg bedroom is named and shaped around its view. From the ‘Vårt Lille Boudoir’ master and spacious ‘Four Daughters’ family room, through to the ‘Moon Room’ in the attic and the ‘Ocean Room,’ with its views along the unspoilt coastline beyond.

Alongside this, downstairs in the larger property there’s also a living room and botanical library bar filled with soft seating, a record player and fireplace to enjoy come evening, a warm and welcoming dining room with a handmade wooden table, as well as a fully equipped kitchen with a working Aga stove.
And, while there may be no dedicated restaurant to visit, don’t worry, as in-house chef Antje de Vies is always on call to create plant-based meals delivered direct to your door, along with a fully stocked self-serve shop just a few steps away whether you’re in need of an everyday essential or a culinary special treat.

Finally, when it comes to experiencing the great outdoors Lilløy Lindenberg has several terraces on which its guests can take in the jaw-dropping landscape or a yoga session or two. There’s also a blossoming herb garden, and even, in what was once a wartime electrical station, a sauna and hot tub. Activities wise the possibilities are endless, with kayaking, Nordic snorkelling, wind and kitesurfing, fjord tours and birdwatching on nearby Herdla.
Prices start at start from €590 per night for an individual room, or €1,600 per night for exclusive use of the entire island. To find out more, visit thelindenberg.com
