What does home mean to you? A question I ask people a lot, either on this blog or when writing for clients and publications, and so too it would seem does Danish design favourite, Ferm Living.
The answers I get back may surprise you, as they are never about things, but feelings. From shared moments of joy and togetherness, providing a sense of sanctuary and security, through to a space we can truly be ourselves. All of them make our homes unique and special places, as well as being the inspiration behind the brand’s SS22 collection.
Launched this week, ‘The Art of Creating a Home’ celebrates the important role our homes play in our journey through life. Whether we are old or young, facing good times or bad, these four walls are the emotional anchor we need, and everything within them reflects who we are and what we love most.
While of course the Ferm Living SS22 collection is packed full of beautiful new pieces for us to swoon over, the brochure is over 300 pages long after all, but to me it feels like a natural next step rather than a leap into the unknown.
The timeless, organic aesthetic of these latest additions sit effortlessly alongside instantly recognisable Ferm Living favourites, allowing our homes to adapt and change with the ebb and flow of everyday life.
Personally, I love the bold ‘Ark Dining Chair’ and brutalist inspired ‘Post Storage Cabinet’, along with its matching dining and coffee tables. Meanwhile the ‘Spin Stool’ will work equally as a seat or a side table, with its soft curved edges and warm to the touch finish.
There are also incredible new lighting designs to discover, such as the timeless ‘Filo Table Lamp’ available in cashmere, dark olive or black, and the ever so elegant ‘Era Chandelier’ with its effortless Art Deco undertones, I may have already chosen the perfect spot in my own home for this one.
Accessories wise there are exciting new textiles, rugs and objects a plenty, with the charismatic ‘Oli Glassware’ made from 100% recycled mouth-blown glass, the ‘Esca Piece’ destined to be the centrepiece of many Insta worthy coffee tables, and the ‘Lithos Magazine Holder’ for bookworms like me that just love to show off their latest reads in true Nordic style.
With just a matter of weeks to go until I visit the Ferm Living Boutique for myself I can’t wait to see the SS22 collection in person, but don’t worry, I’ll be sure to report back.
