For my latest tour, we are heading to one of my favourite European destinations, the beautiful city of Munich to find out more about the place, much-loved writer and designer, Sarah Van Peteghem, also known as Coco Lapine Design, calls home.
Originally from Antwerp, Sarah left her native Belgium for Germany after completing her studies in Industrial Design. First she headed to Berlin, where she started her blog and art print business, before moving once more to Bavaria’s historical capital and establishing her interior design consultancy.
I’ve long been a fan of Sarah’s striking range of prints, as well as her serene and sophisticated sense of Scandinavian style, so was super excited to find out more.
Over to Sarah to tell us more about her journey:
“As a freelance designer and blogger my home is not just where I live but also where I work. So, finding a space that I feel comfortable in, as well as inspired in each and every day, is really important.
I’ve lived in my current rented apartment for the last 18 months and just like my designs, I like my furniture to be modest and simple, allowing me to surround myself with the things I love most.
While I may not be able to make huge changes, it doesn’t stop me making the space feel like my own. I think interior style is all about how you combine different items, textures and materials to create a mood that suits you.
I’ve recently started introducing blue details throughout my apartment, I love the freshness it gives to a more neutral palette of wood, white and beige, while still having a very cosy and tranquil look. This is something I always try to achieve, especially in the bedroom where you spend time resting and winding down.
I’m now planning to add a storage unit in my hallway and living room. It will go from high storage down into a low sideboard so I will be able to add decorative items, the perfect combo for me as you can combine two functions; hiding away and displaying.
My balcony has also been a serious lifesaver during lockdown. I like to take a walk every afternoon to get some fresh air, but apart from that I’m pretty much in my apartment all day and it’s so refreshing to be able to chill out there or even work from my laptop when the weather allows it. During these past few months it’s really become an extension of my living space plus it’s just as cosy and inviting.”
