With the rain pouring down outside, candles and lamps lit in every room, and the central heating on full blast; what better way to take my mind off the change in seasons than with the latest additions at Audo Copenhagen.
It feels like a lifetime ago now that I got a first glimpse of this collection at 3 Days of Design back in June, but with products now in stores, I thought this inspirational mix of new designs as well as extensions to some already much-loved lines deserved a review of their own.
Amongst the most anticipated arrivals this autumn are of course the Brasilia Sofa and Lounge Chair. Designed by Oslo based Anderssen & Voll and sporting a look that combines the very best of mid-century Scandinavian and Modernist Brazilian aesthetics, it is in fact the new Brasilia Lounge Table that stands out for me with its sophisticated tempered glass top.
Copenhagen based Norm Architects meanwhile have created a further two sofa options for our homes. Firstly, for those with plenty of space to fill there is the Eave Seamline modular sofa with its clean lines, stitch details and concave and convex forms. Whereas for those of us looking to get as much use as possible out of the limited room we have, the elegant Offset Sofa Bed will provide stylish overnight accommodation for guests in an instant.
Another sleek yet functional furniture piece worth noting is an archival design Audo Copenhagen have added to their portfolio, the Jäger Lounge Table. Originally conceived by Mogens Lassen in 1941, and named after the merchant it was crafted for, it is said to be inspired by the folding stools and beds of Tutankhamen’s Egyptian tomb.
When it comes to lighting there is as always lots to take in, including two of my all time favourite Audo Copenhagen collections now with new siblings. The playful Dancing Pendant by Iskos-Berlin, inspired by a dancer’s pleated skirt mid-twirl, is now available in a smaller 60cm diameter, and the Hashira Collection again by Norm Architects, with its nod to Japan now includes a Linear Pendant Lamp and neat Ceiling Lamp.
Finally, I couldn’t write this post without mentioning that Colin King’s must-have Interconnect Candle Holder has thankfully been redefined in a new more compact size. I never had room for one in my own home before, but now I just need to decide on whether the bronzed brass, black powder-coated metal or polished steel would fit best.
