As someone who knows all too well just how much it takes to turn your passion into your profession, I instantly understood how important it was for this homeowner to celebrate what they love most in their new Nordic kitchen by Nordiska Kök.
It was after working in the fashion industry several years that back in 2015 Lotta Klemming realised it was time for a change so made the move from the big city back to her hometown of Grebbestad on the west coast of Sweden.
Spurred on by a deeply rooted devotion to sustainability as well as the sea, this inspirational lady went on to became Sweden’s first (and still only) female oyster diver. Today, through her own oyster company ‘Klemmings Ostron’, Lotta now supplies hand-harvested, wild-caught produce to some of Scandinavia’s most prestigious restaurants and bars.
Alongside this, and welcoming her daughter Irene into the world, Lotta and her husband, Sander Schimmelpenninck, have also recently opened ‘Ostrongården’ too, a guest house where those who share similar values can stay and experience for themselves the first-class local gastronomy, an abundance of sea-based activities, and the stunning natural landscape this part of the Nordic region is best known for.
Located outside Grebbestad close to the idyllic Tjurpannan Nature Reserve, the newly built two-bedroomed cabin optimises Lotta’s experience of the sea. Modern in style, but with a hint of retro, the walls, floors and material choices used throughout echo the look and feel of the archipelago outside, and nowhere is this more evident than in the kitchen.
Thoughtfully designed and created by Gothenburg based Nordiska Kök, as well as being durable and functional, Lotta’s distinctive choice of stainless-steel cupboards and worksurfaces reflects the shimmering sea and the rugged cliffs perfectly, while the oyster terrazzo on the cooker hood and large dining table ensures the cross-over between life and work comes together beautifully.
Providing the ideal setting for guests to cook and relax in after a long day out on the water, this incredibly inviting space, surrounded by magnificent views would certainly somewhere I’d love to experience for myself.
