As Denmark’s most popular tourist attraction, with over 4.5 million visitors a year, what do you do to celebrate your 175th birthday?
Well, if you’re Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, you join forces with a global design company and produce a new homeware collection of course.
It was at the recent 3daysofdesign festival when excited Normann Copenhagen fans like me finally got a first look at the new Tivoli collection; and what a collaboration it is.
Located at the heart of city, Tivoli Gardens is something very special and a total must visit for anyone, design lover or otherwise.
Yes, it’s a theme park with roller-coasters and rides a-plenty, restaurants, food stalls and gift shops galore. But as my little boy can testify, there’s also the amazing Rasmus Klump show; and for my husband and I, beautifully planted gardens and picturesque lakes to explore too.
It was after being approached by the park owners about creating a ‘few items’ for a new gift shop that Normann Copenhagen got involved. The design studio were so inspired by their visits and from researching the archives, that this soon grew into a collection of more than 300 pieces.
Normann Copenhagen have totally embraced the unique history and playful atmosphere of Tivoli Gardens while remaining true to their own style too, using understated contemporary shapes, clean organic lines as well as quality materials and craftsmanship.
I particularly love the hand blown glass vases, the elegant tableware, and of course the sculptural watering can!
From the colour palette of Candyfloss Rose, True Blue, and Lollipop Red through to the side-stripe found on the guard’s trousers, the fairy lights strung throughout the trees or balloons bobbing in the clear blue sky above. Every piece, whether it’s lighting, textiles and home accessories subtly references this extraordinary place.
So if you’re looking to add some fun, or a sprinkling of Tivoli magic to your home, then this is the collection for you.
Products are due to go on sale in time for Christmas, but in the meantime if you’d like to find out more visit the Normann Copenhagen website.
