Over the past couple of weeks I’ve already started sharing details of the new season launches with you, but today’s is something rather special as its one I’ve had the honour of working on myself. It’s the Autumn-Winter 2021 collection from Northern.
I’ve been a huge fan of this Norwegian design brand for years, with its understated style and long-lasting quality, so you can imagine how thrilled I’ve been collaborating with them on their campaigns this year.
For Autumn-Winter 2021, Northern have released a number of exciting new pieces across their growing range of furniture, lighting and home accessories, all of which have been thoughtfully created with the changing needs of modern everyday life in mind.
Starting with award-winning Berlin based designer Mark Braun’s ‘Treble Bar Stool’, which draws inspiration from the classic Nordic style. Behind this clean silhouette and carefully crafted detailing there is comfort and convenience perfectly suiting life in our homes today.
The ‘Valet Wall Console’ from acclaimed Gothenburg based furniture designer Sami Kallio meanwhile can be used as a desk, side table or nightstand. The choice is yours. This multi-functional piece, with its sweeping curved edges and circular drawer, can be hung at any height you choose; allowing you to continually adapt its use.
Alongside these new launches, many existing Northern series have also received new additions, including one of my favourites, the ‘Hifive’ console from Rudi Wulff. This sleek storage system has been given new back panels and lower height legs, offering even more options whatever room it’s placed in.
As you would expect from Northern, there is also lots of lovely new lighting too. Inspired by autumnal Nordic forests, the long-awaited ‘Acorn Floor Lamp’ looks incredible, with its solid trunk-like shape and a shade that resembles an empty acorn shell.
Another favourite of mine is the beautiful ‘Birdy Swing Lamp’. Based on an original sketch by Birger Dahl from 1952, Northern have worked in careful consultation with the iconic Norwegian designer’s family to bring this piece into production for the first time.
With further updates to the ‘Over Me’ series, striking larger size ‘Reveal’ lamps available and new natural colour ways in the ‘Oasis’ planter series; there is certainly a lot to choose from.
With us, and our homes, having to adapt and change so much over the last year, investing in timeless and well designed pieces such as these, means that no matter how much time we need or choose to spend within the same four walls the spaces we create can reflect who we are, how we live and what we love.
