As the highlight of the year, many of us are already getting ready for Christmas by the time Advent is underway. But, for the festive part of this winter season, I’m going to be taking inspiration from my summer travels.
It was back in July that my family and I headed off on a very special road trip, travelling by train from Oslo to Copenhagen. Yet, it was our Swedish stop off that is the starting point now.
Gothenburg based, Fine Little Day are a lifestyle brand I recommend time and time again. Founded in 2007 by the talented designer and photographer Elisabeth Dunker, their simple and stylish tableware, homewares, artworks and fashion pieces all have a story to tell.
A true celebration of effortless aesthetics, sustainable principles, and collaborative craftsmanship whatever the time of year, and handily stocked by many lovely independent stores throughout the UK too; here’s how you can get ready for Christmas with their help.
Decorating your house
Bringing the Christmas tree home is always a very special moment in our house, heightening everyone’s excitement and expectation immensely. With handmade baubles crafted in porcelain clay, as well as a new series of gold-plated stainless-steel ornaments available in four beautiful designs, Fine Little Day have everything you need to update your decorations, bring a touch of festive sparkle to the mantlepiece, or add a personal touch to table place settings.
Writing your cards
I know many of us no longer send cards, but it’s one Christmas tradition I personally like to uphold. Made from FSC certified paper, Fine Little Day have a beautiful selection of Christmas cards all designed by Elisabeth herself. With nature inspired illustrations, Swedish folk art symbols, or winter fir branches to choose from, share your well wishes the old-fashioned way this year. After all its so much nicer than sending a quick text or DM.
Setting your table
Whether you’re preparing a festive feast or creating a warm and welcoming table for when your guests arrive, make memorable meals over the festive season with Fine Little Day’s collection of kitchen and tableware. From jacquard woven linen aprons, oven gloves and tea towels through to tablecloths, napkins and laminated birch wood trays, mix and match them with your existing favourites to create a setting as unique as you are.
Wrapping your presents
Make sure your presents look stunning when placed underneath the Christmas tree with Fine Little Day’s collection of silk wrapping papers, ribbons, gift boxes, bags and tags. Plus, once they’re wrapped, why not also fill one of their padded Christmas stockings with surprises too: perfect for popping on a bedroom door handle, by the foot of a bed or hung traditionally over the fireplace.
Putting your feet up!
Often the most genuine Christmas celebrations take place when you least expect them, so be sure to take a moment to sit back, relax and savour that well-earned festive feeling. Forget about the formalities and put your feet up with hot chocolate served in a handmade cup created in collaboration with ceramist Kajsa Cramer, or get cosy on top of a pile of soft cushions to watch your favourite holiday season film.
