For many the term ‘hygge’ conjures up wintery scenes of candlelight and woollen socks, but have you ever heard of ‘summer hygge’?
By now you probably know I’m a little bit obsessed with this essential element of Danish life. As author Brontë Aurell recommends in her fantastic book, ‘North’, hygge shouldn’t be seasonal, but an ongoing state of mind.
Practiced by Danes all year round, especially when it comes to their homes, one room that always needs an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, whatever the weather, is the bedroom.
So, what do you do when it’s time to pack those extra warm blankets away?
Thankfully for me I didn’t need to look very far to achieve the spring refresh I was after: just down the M62 to Cheadle in Greater Manchester in fact.
Part of the family
With over 165 years’ experience in textiles, British brand Christy has stood the test of time. For me their products feel almost part of the family, with both my Mum and Nanna before her being huge fans of both their bedding, and of course their legendary looped cotton towels.
Yet while my own sense of style is, shall we say a little more understated than theirs, with the launch of the new Living by Christy range traditional designs have been given a contemporary twist.
Cosy summer sanctuary
For colour lovers there are pops of fuchsia and turquoise. For those who like to follow trends there are florals and oriental inspired patterns. If you’re more like me and prefer a minimal and muted look then I can’t recommend the gorgeous Pebble Pyjama Stripe bed linen enough.
Available exclusively online at the official Christy web shop, whichever you choose, all are woven from 100% cotton and are super light and soft.
I also layered mine with the fine Oslo throw in Denim and Jaipur velvet cushions in Ink to complete the cosy summer sanctuary I was looking for.

Christy kindly gifted the products featured for this post, but all words and opinions are my own.
