As I sit writing this post I’m excitedly waiting on a delivery from one of Denmark’s most loved interior brands, Ferm Living. Investing in a new piece of furniture is always a serious business and believe me I’ve spent far too much time researching, pondering, and saving before making this purchase. Safe to say when it arrives, I know myself and my family will enjoy using it every day for many years to come.
That’s the thing though with Ferm Living; whatever you choose you know it has been carefully created to not only look great, but to truly fulfil a purpose, bringing with it a lifetime of pleasure.
Making the ordinary something worth celebrating is exactly what the Ferm Living AW22 collection is all about. Titled ‘Moments of Reflection’, it isn’t packed with big ticket items, but smaller collectable pieces that will make a house feel like home.
Made for gifting, either to yourself or someone else, every new addition balances the simple and sculptural, the organic and structured; focussing in on natural, tactile materials that will become more beautiful over time.
There are three areas which for me Ferm Living have done really well: stoneware, glassware, and textiles.
Firstly the Shape Sculpture Set, handcrafted in Italy. Its artfully uneven edges add an enticing tactility. The striking Moire Vase created by 3D printing clay, with the thin layers forming a subtle pattern across the body of the vase, and my personal favourite the Omhu series. Taken from the Danish word for ‘making an effort’, this beautiful charcoal and off-white dinnerware is currently at the top of my Christmas table wish-list.
Acting as their colourful companions however are the Floccula wine glasses, which come in an earthy green or ‘soil’ colour way, the Tinta bowls and egg cups with their inky splashes of blue and deep brown, and the Oli desert cups made from 100% recycled green glass.
Meanwhile, if it’s your living space or bedroom that needs a seasonal update then why not take a look at the Lay Cushion with its cosy structure and deep pile, the patchwork Part Bedspread inspired by the traditional Korean Pojagi technique, or the Forma Wool Rug with its distinct organic shape yet super soft expression.
