Sharing your home with a child can, at times, be a challenge. But thanks to one of my favourite Danish homeware brands, Ferm Living, I don’t need to give up or give in when it comes to creating a considered, as well as fun-filled, family home.
Every season I look forward to seeing what their latest Kids Room Collection has in store and once again the spring-summer 2019 range is a total inspiration.
Titled, ‘Space to feel comfortably you’, the catalogue explores the theme that a home should not only look good but feel good, and for me that should always include our smallest housemates.
As beautifully presented as ever, page after page is filled with pieces that have been thoughtfully designed. They not only spark the imagination and interest of a young person, but also perfectly complement the main Ferm Living Home Collection too.
It also references many of this seasons key interior trends in terms of colours, themes, materials and finishes.
Thanks to Ferm Living you can incorporate the same warm browns and terracottas, moody blues and bottle greens, as well as those lush accents of mustard and rose into your child’s bedroom or playroom.
As you’d expect there’s an amazing range of bedding, lighting and toys. Let’s be honest who wouldn’t want to play for hours with the gender neutral Toro Kitchen?
There’s also super inventive storage – every parent’s holy grail – with apples and pears made from braided rattan. This new set of baskets are ideal for a quick tidy up at bedtime as well as keeping those extra special toys safe.
I also adore the super tactile hand tufted rugs that can either be hung on a wall or placed on the floor referencing playful coral, friendly seahorses or cheeky fish.
A particular highlight for me however is their collaboration with British illustrator, Katie Scott on three amazingly detailed wallpaper prints. Based on Shells, Trees and Animals, each fascinating and intricate design will be instantly recognisable if you’ve bought her renowned children’s books. One thing’s for sure, they would look breath-taking in any room of your home, no matter what your age.

I think the colour palette they’ve chosen is so clever! Especially in a market which is so samey, gender-stereotyped or simply monochrome. Lovely to see those earthy tones being splashed about unapologetically. I think it’s a wonderful range!
Nicola says
So glad you enjoyed the collection Karen. I think we will look back at this in years to come and realise how pioneering their approach really is x
