With so many amazing interior launches in the last few weeks, as well as Maison et Objet and London Design Festival taking place; let’s just say September has been filled with new Nordic inspiration.
I’ve already covered some of my favourite autumn-winter collections and there are more to come, but for this round up I wanted to focus on one item in particular; the lamp.
So many beautifully designed pieces have caught my eye recently. While all are modern and perfectly reflect the trends of today; each has been influenced by traditional Nordic design culture, making them as timeless as their predecessors.
Here are my current favourite finds:
Piccolo Table Lamp from Skagerak
This September, Danish brand, Skagerak, have launched their first lighting collection and I personally adore the characterful Piccolo lamp.
Designed by Birmingham born John Astbury, who now lives and works in Sweden, the Piccolo lamp is inspired by the bell you might find on a receptionist’s desk.
Made from powder-coated steel and available in black and light grey, Piccolo is turned on and off when you click the shade. Gorgeous!
PC Table Lamp from Hay
The small portable versions of these sensuous lamps were everywhere this summer so I’m probably not the only one who was thrilled to see a larger table lamp added to Pierre Charpin’s collection this season.
Thanks to its classic tulip shape and concealed diffuser, this lamp provides a soft, downward directed light perfect for reading and working.
With its matt, soft black or silver anodised aluminium finish, the PC will look amazing on your desk, sideboard or bedside table.
Ware Table Lamp from New Work
If one lamp perfectly describes the ethos of form follows function, then this has to be it.
Appearing like a pair of shells huddled together on a cold Nordic shore, the rounded front of the Ware Table Lamp hides the lighting diffuser behind, allowing a soft illuminating pool of light to swell up from within.
Designed by Toronto based, MSDS Studio, who are renowned for their Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics, this piece also has a 3-step dimmer for those extra special hygge moments; and comes in ‘Milk White’ or, my personal favourite, ‘Mole Grey’.
Blossi Table Lamp from Nuura
With its mouth-blown white opal glass and matt black base, the new Blossi Table Lamp was inspired by the northern light of the Nordic autumn.
It looks stunning and is beautifully crafted, and also incorporates state of the art LED technology.
Created by the award-winning lighting designer Sofie Refer, every piece from the Blossi collection, whether it’s a chandelier, wall light or table lamp, is designed to give an indirect soft and delicate glow to your room.
Virva Lamp from Iittala
This autumn-winter Iittala’s ambient lighting collection expands even further with the stunning new Virva lamp by Swedish designer Matti Klenell.
With its distinctive shape, the embossed mouth blown glass shade, available in ‘Linnen’ or ‘Dark Grey’, sits perfectly on a powder-coated aluminium base.
With the soothingly emitted light coming from no specific direction, this lamp can be placed anywhere and still grab the spotlight for itself.
With so many amazing new lamps to choose from, which one is your favourite?
