This year I’m looking to make a rather important investment; and that’s two new sofas for our living room. I actually bought our existing ones before I’d even met my husband, so this purchase is way overdue.
As you would expect I’ve already shortlisted my favourites, but for now, I’m patiently waiting for showrooms to reopen so I can go and check them out in person, before making a final decision.
So, in the meantime, I thought I’d share with you the recently launched ‘Sideways Sofa’ from one of my favourite Danish furniture brands, Carl Hansen & Son, all in the name of research of course.
Designed by the award-winning, Rikke Frost, the beautifully crafted RF1903 Sideways Sofa challenges both the traditional look of this most hardworking piece of furniture, as well as a new way of using it.
It combines classic materials such as oak, walnut and woven paper cord with a modern asymmetrical shape. The low sweeping steam-bent backrest and soft curving two-seater seat allows you to get comfy and face the person sat next to you, encouraging a more personal experience and feeling of togetherness; which after the year we have all been through is more important than ever.
“Communication is being challenged by tablets and other digital equipment, so I wanted to make a sofa where it feels more natural for people to talk to each other. On most sofas, you sit straight, and you have to turn your head to the side to talk. I wanted to create a sofa to encourage more natural conversation.”
