This week the great and the good of the design world have once again headed to the largest trade fair of its kind, Salone del Mobile in Milan. And, while the exhibition halls may be the focus for many, it’s been a carefully curated show apartment that has really stood out for me.
Created by Danish design brand Muuto, and located in the beautiful Brera District, ‘The Artful Home’, is the perfect blend of pared back Scandinavian style and striking Milanese architecture.
Instantly drawing you in, across these six charming rooms Muuto takes a deep dive into what makes up the feeling of home, as well as giving their visitors the opportunity to see and feel products up-close.
Demonstrating how well-thought-out design can enhance our everyday, no matter where in the world we may live, on display for the first time is the ‘Earnest Extendable Table’ by London based product and furniture designer, John Tree.
Made from FSC certified solid oak, it’s slender arched legs and clean profile gives this piece an instantly timeless quality, while the inbuilt extension system allows you to easily accommodate extra guests as and when you need to.
Meanwhile in complete visual contrast, the ‘Set Lamp’ by Toronto-based designer Jamie Wolfond, has a heavier more industrial feel. Taking its cues from a screw thread, this unique lamp made from anodized aluminium, has an adjustable shade enabling you to change the angle and intensity of the light depending on your requirements.
Additionally, Muuto also uses this apartment to showcase a new colourways and configurations for their much-loved ‘Stacked Storage System’, by Julien De Smedt. Now available in a rich ‘brown green’ finish, if your home is anything like mine, then customisable shelving and cupboard space that looks good and works hard is a must.
“Creating spaces that feel just right has always been what Muuto is about. In Milan, we are not as much focusing on a single product as creating evocative atmospheres that move us on a deeper level. We hope to inspire us all to be more intentional about the space where we spend most of our time – our home,” says Line Brockmann Juhl, Chief Marketing Officer at Muuto.
Proving a huge hit with its visitors, the Muuto Milan apartment is open to visitors from the 16th – 21st of April.
