One thing that really struck me when I visited the Design Museum Denmark recently was just how much colour and pattern has been historically used in Nordic design.
It might not be what the wider world has come to associate with the region, or necessarily what the interiors market has dictated over the last twenty years, but boy is there an incredible back catalogue ready for us all to rediscover.
One example of this is the latest lighting releases from &Tradition. Packed full of personality and playfulness, even a devotee to the pared back Scandi look such as myself, couldn’t help but get excited when I saw the scintillating new shades of the Flowerpot lamp.
Originally created in 1968 by architect and designer Verner Panton, this iconic piece has now become synonymous with the modernist style of the decade. A pioneer in every sense, Panton loved nothing more than experimenting with shapes, materials and most importantly, colour. Believing that every hue evoked strong emotions and affected the way we feel.
So, if like me you fancy adding a pop of Flower Power to your home this season, then look no further. Alongside a pendant covered in an original black and white wave-pattern first used in 1970, &Tradition have worked closely with the Panton family to add a further five shades to the series.
Now these much-loved ceiling lights, wall lights, table lamps and portables are available in a fresh Swim Blue, a sophisticated Dark Plum, an eye-catching Tangy Pink, a bold Vermilion Red and an intense Cobalt Blue. All of which originating from the designers archive or taking reference from key moments in his life.
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate his lasting legacy.
