What better way to celebrate the start of this year’s 3daysofdesign than with a visit to the new look Hay House?
Officially opening its doors in time for Denmark’s largest annual design festival, Hay’s iconic flagship store has been given an exciting top-to-bottom makeover, with a showroom, event and meeting space, as well the brand’s offices now located over four glorious floors.
Situated on Østergade in the centre of Copenhagen’s pedestrian shopping district, Hay House has always been my first stop on every trip my family and I have undertaken to the Danish capital since 2014, which coincidentally is also the same year 3daysofdesign was launched.
Hay meanwhile was founded almost two decades ago now by husband-and-wife team, Mette and Rolf Hay, and since then has gone on to become one of the most loved and instantly recognisable Danish brands.
Looking around my own home I probably have more Hay products than I’d care to admit, choosing to invest in their quality furniture and picking up every day affordable accessories from their stores in Oslo, Berlin and Amsterdam as well as from one of their many stockists in the UK.
Yet there is something about experiencing Hay House for yourself that nowhere else can replicate. From the moment you walk in past the striking Nathalie du Pasquier paintings taking either the curved stone staircase or the art-nouveau inspired lift, you know you are on a design journey like no other.
Then as the door goes back and you take in the light-filled showroom there is something about hearing the muffled sounds from the city streets below through those large bay windows, the feel of the warm parquet floor under your feet and the period panelling on the walls that perfectly combines with Hay’s colourful contemporary designs and artistic collaborations that make this such a special place.

With more than 200 design companies hosting events, showcasing new products as well as talks, exhibitions and pop-ups taking place I’ll be sure to share more of my highlights 3daysofdesign over the coming weeks.
