If ever there was a time to embrace Nordic cosiness it has to be now. With lots of us currently in lockdown for the second time, and winter well on its way, we all need to make the most of staying home and finding pleasure in the simple things.
Whether it’s much-loved Danish ‘hygge’, Norwegian ‘koselig’ or Swedish ‘mysig’, celebrating everyday moments of family life has never been more important.
That’s why I’ve teamed up again with home accessories brand, OYOY Living Design, to share some simple ideas on how to create a cosy home this season.
Enjoy your favourite hot drink
When it’s dark and chilly outside, what better way to ease the stresses and strains of the day than with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, tea or hot chocolate. So, put the kettle on, wrap your hands around that steaming mug, and hunker-down somewhere quiet so you can be left undisturbed for a little while.
Wrap yourself up in a blanket
Is there anything more relaxing than curling up on the sofa under a soft blanket or two? While my own couch is now a bit of squeeze, with a wriggly five-year-old as well as a cat and dog who both need constant cuddles, nothing soothes the soul better than listening to the crackle of our wood burning stove while the wind howls outside.
Make some comfort food
I’ve lost count of how much banana bread I’ve made this year, but the delicious smell of it baking is just as soothing as the eating. Taste undoubtedly evokes the happiest of memories so take some time out together to enjoy a seasonal sweet treat, a bowl of hearty soup or a home-cooked family favourite.
Bring the outdoors in
If you’re anything like me then going for a daily walk has been a must-do this year and these small adventures have brought so much pleasure. My little boy and I both Iove collecting stones, fallen leaves or pinecones that we can then use to decorate the house. So, keep an eye out for those hidden treasures and don’t let the bad weather put you off.
Add lots of candlelight
Let’s be honest, you can never have too many candles. Their cheery glow always brightens up the darkest mood. I must admit I need no excuse to have at least one burning at any time of day, whether it’s while I’m working, cooking our evening meal or reading a good book before bed.
I hope I’ve inspired you to create a cosy home this season. Do you have any further tips?
