It’s time for another ‘At home with’ and today we are heading to the outskirts of Copenhagen, to take a look around the incredible home of Digital Art Director, Alek Modin.
Recently modernised, but dating back to 1925, Alek’s home is a personal favourite of mine and I was thrilled when he agreed to share more about what life is like behind the front door of the colourful wooden house, he shares with boyfriend Chris, and their six-month old Labradoodle, Balder.
Over to Alek to tell us more:
“We moved into our home eighteen months ago after living for many years in a small apartment in Nørrebro, and while it benefitted from being newly renovated, we felt that the character and charm of living in a unique place like this had somehow got lost along the way and knew immediately it was up to us to put the soul back into it.
As an interior design enthusiast, I wanted to challenge the traditional view that Nordic homes have to be white, so chose to go all out with colour. From our earthy red staircase, the warm yellow in the living area, through to the soothing blue on our bedroom ceiling, as you walk through the house each room now has its own distinct personality.
When it comes to choosing furniture, I like to mix classic designs such as lighting from Louis Poulsen and Le Klint with new pieces from &Tradition and Muuto. Investing in pieces that are simple, functional and made from the highest quality materials. I want my things to last for many years and become more beautiful with time.
At the moment, we are focusing our attention on the outside of the house. The plants and flowers we added last year are maturing well, and we are planning to paint the exterior a classic black to really showcase the trees and shrubs. Having a garden has definitely been one of the things I really love most about moving into this house.
For me, my home is both a creative playground and a place where I can relax and enjoy everyday life. Our house is always open to guests and we look forward to sharing so many good times with our family and friends.”
