If you feel anything like me right now, then you will have never looked forward to the new season quite as much, and thankfully details of the upcoming spring-summer collections are already starting to come through. Over the coming weeks I will, as always, be sharing the latest in Nordic design with you, and what better place to start than with Copenhagen-based, Kristina Dam Studio.
What makes this contemporary Scandinavian furniture and homeware so appealing to me is how it perfectly blends interiors, architecture and design together. With its distinctive shapes and beautifully crafted details, Kristina Dam has long been a favourite of mine, and it was a total pleasure to chat with her myself last year.
As you would expect the spring-summer 2021 ‘Modernist Collection’ is all about clean lines and a simple colour palette, but for the first-time materials including travertine, aluminium and suede have also been introduced.
The standout pieces are the new ‘Modernist’ lounge chair and sofa. Their tubular stainless-steel frames, upholstered in curved, super soft Bouclé or wool, come in a choice of cool grey tones, beige or rich chocolate brown.
If it’s extra storage you are on the lookout for, then the ‘Stack’ floor and wall shelves, crafted from solid oak with dark oiled walnut can be used as stand-alone pieces or combined together to fit your own unique space. Small dowels connect the walnut wood pieces on the back of the shelves creating strong, stylish and functional shelving for use in a hallway, living room, or let’s face it, home office.
What I also love about this collection though is the new range of beautiful home accessories; perfect smaller pieces we can invest in now and cherish forever. And with a lockdown birthday coming up, I may need to start dropping some hints.
My favourites are the ‘Opal’ vase in mouth blown, brown topaz or beige opal glass, the simple but striking ‘Alumina’ tealight candleholder available in polished and powder-coated casted aluminium, and the gorgeous range of ‘Contemporary’ cushions, throws and traditionally crafted ‘Kelim’ woven rugs, again all with an architectural, grid-like graphic pattern, available in a range of muted beige, black and off-white.
