When I recently received details from Ferm Living about their new collaboration with one of my favourite galleries, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, I was beside myself with excitement and just had to share the details with you.
Copenhagen based Ferm Living certainly doesn’t need any introduction from me. Their thoughtfully designed and beautifully made furniture, lighting and accessories adorn the homes of countless Nordic interior style fans across the world.
Yet, when looking to create a new woven fabric for their soft, curvaceous, and comfortable Rico series, Trine Andersen, Ferm Living’s founder and Creative Director turned to one of her own favourite places to escape to for inspiration.
Just a 30-minute drive from the Danish capital in Humlebæk, I too have been a regular visitor to the incredible Louisiana Museum of Modern Art for years. As a Fine Art graduate myself, I’m never more comfortable than in a gallery space, and since completing my studies, I have been fortunate enough to visit some of the world’s most iconic art museums. While the Tate Modern is striking, the Pompidou Centre pioneering and MOMA mind-blowing, the Louisiana is quite simply, magical.
Along with an annual programme of high profile internationally acclaimed exhibitions and an extensive permanent collection, the gallery is also set within an old park. Providing the perfect setting for their collection of 45 prolific sculptures, which include pieces by Henry Moore and Richard Serra, there are also landscaped open lawns, shady woodland, a viewing terrace with panoramic views of the Øresund Sound, and a gorge that leads down to the beach.
The final Ferm Living design, a thick bold black and sand stripe, perfectly echoes the understated modernist architecture of the gallery. For any visitor, the Louisiana’s tall, whitewashed gallery walls, deep red floor tiles and contrasting wooden structural details are a sight to behold, and the intimate atmosphere and sensory experience of being in this enchanting space is something I cannot recommend highly enough.
“When I visit Louisiana, it doesn’t feel like I’m at a museum. It’s more like a home.” Trine Andersen, Ferm Living founder and Creative Director.
The Rico Lounge Chair and the Rico 2-Seater are available to buy now, with prices starting at €1.765.
