I’ve been so inspired by the new Hotel Bella Grande I’ve gone and booked a two-night stay. Believe me, this doesn’t happen often, and with a few months still to go until my trip, I thought I’d share more about it so you can see why.
Located in the heart of Copenhagen, and dating back to 1899, Hotel Bella Grande is one of the city’s oldest hotel addresses, with Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr. and Marlene Dietrich all said to have stayed in this historic building.
Now owned by the Copenhagen Food Collective (Cofoco), a hospitality group whose impressive portfolio includes 18 well known city-wide restaurants, as well as the Coco Hotel, it has recently been given an extraordinary refurbishment.
Overseen by the talented TONEN agency, and with influences taken from designers Malene Bach-Pedersen and Mette Bonavent’s trip to Italy, the entire hotel now combines nostalgic charm with modern sophistication.
All 109-rooms, which include singles and doubles, luxurious rooftop suites and family rooms, one of which I will be staying in, have a contemporary yet calming atmosphere thanks to the use of muted colours, coordinated upholsteray and fabric lampshades from Danish brand Oi soi oi.
But it’s not just the rooms that have got guests talking, so too has the in-house Italian restaurant ‘Donna’, the laid-back cocktail lounge and the striking glass covered atrium. With its bold red-and-white checkerboard marble tiles, oversized floral arrangements, and luxurious looking banquettes it certainly provides a ‘wow’ factor to breakfast, dinner or late-night drinks.
With every detail of the hotel’s interior a carefully sourced blend of vintage objects and artworks sat alongside furniture from &Tradition, lighting from GUBI, side tables from Polspotten and bespoke vanities made by Københavns Møbelsnedkeri, Hotel Bella Grande certainly provides a one-of-a-kind experience, and I for one can’t wait to see it for myself.
Prices start at £170 per night.
