With over 45,000 visitors expected to descend on the Danish capital this week there’s only one place in this inspirational city every design lover will want to stay, and that’s the new Petra Hotel. Created by furniture and lighting favourites &Tradition, in collaboration with hospitality experts Copenhagen Design Hotels, it’s no coincidence that doors will open for the first time during Scandinavia’s biggest design festival.
Located adjacent to the King’s Garden on Dronningens Tværgade, which itself is surrounded by some the city’s most popular showrooms and cultural attractions, this beautiful boutique hotel was actually first created back in 1943 by the influential architect Kay Fisker.
A leading advocate of Danish Functionalism, who combined simple forms with traditional materials, the Petra Hotel is now a fitting tribute to his lasting legacy. Original terrazzo floors, handcrafted stairway bannisters, brass fittings and curved wooden features have all been thoughtfully preserved, allowing the craftsmanship of the building, as well as Fiskar’s distinctive design details to once again be enjoyed and appreciated.
Alongside maintaining a deep connection with its past however, the Petra Hotel is also a celebration in contemporary Danish design too. With forty newly decorated en-suite rooms for guests to choose from, each and every one reflects the enriching blend of classic elegance and modern comfort &Tradition is so well known for.
With an array of their furniture, lighting and objects at every turn, such as Margas sofas, Little Petra lounge chairs, Formakami pendants and Flowerpot lamps, this warm and welcoming experience even extends through to the hotel’s dedicated bar and restaurant.
Just like the &Tradition cafe Lille Petra, the atmosphere, as well as the menu is inspired by the overarching concept of merging heritage with modernity, offering a fresh perspective on Danish cuisine that combines traditional influences with international flavours.
Whether visiting for breakfast, an evening meal or a post-dinner cocktail, the Petra Hotel is set to be the perfect place to rest and recharge after a busy day exploring 3 Days of Design, and with design talks and daily aperitivo served each afternoon I’m very much looking forward to visiting for myself.
Prices start at 2200 – 2800 DKK.
